The first All India Moot Court competition in the field of Technology Laws titled ‘Surana and Surana International Moot Court Competition on Technology Laws 2002’ will be held in Pune on February 16 & 17, 2002 at the ILS Law College. The city’s AK Khan Law College will compete with teams from Kerala, Pondicherry, Mysore, Dharwad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, etc.

This year’s moot court problem has been conceptualized by the Asian School of Cyber Laws, Pune. It is based on the recently enacted Information Technology Act 2000 and also involves issues relating to Copyright Act, Evidence Act and Criminal Laws.

Justice Y V Chandrachud, former Chief Justice of India and President of the Indian Law Society will be the chief guest at the inaugural function today while Vinod Surana, Founder Trustee, Information Technology Bar of India will preside over the function. The Valedictory Function will be held on February 17 and will be presided over by Justice Dilip Karnik, Bombay High Court.

Such competitions are being held to act as the specific stimulation for students to acquire skills of presenting legal arguments with persuasion. It is hoped that it will go a long way in moulding the future legislators, public officials and executive agencies.
